Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch insists the club are up for the challenge of staving off relegation despite another heavy defeat putting them closer to the drop.

The Whites were beaten 3-0 at home by Chelsea on Wednesday, with Daniel James sent off in the first half for a poor challenge, leaving the club 18th with 34 points from 36 games.

Everton, who are 16th, drew 0-0 at relegated Watford to move up to 36 points from 35 games, while Burnley did not play and remain 17th on 34 points from 35 games.

Leeds, who have played a game more than their relegation rivals, host Brighton & Hove Albion and go to Brentford in their final two fixtures.

“The players are so committed, they deserve more,” Marsch told BBC Sport. “I’m trying to help them to earn it. I have to stay strong with my belief which I have.

“I believe we can still fight for every point left. Until the red card there were a lot of good things. I like our team, I like the club, I love the fanbase. I’m really happy here.

“We had our backs against the wall in a very difficult situation.

“None of us have lived this. In big games we make the exact same mistakes. We are all in this together and doing everything we can. We’re up for the challenge.”

Everton’s remaining fixtures are against Brentford (home), Crystal Palace (home) and Arsenal (away).

The Toffees arguably missed a golden opportunity to pull clear with the Watford draw.

Everton manager Frank Lampard told BBC Sport: “It is a point gained - on paper that is what it is. We have taken well deserved wins against tough opposition (Chelsea and Leicester City).

“No disrespect to Watford, we maybe expected to come here and win again but the Premier League doesn’t work that way.”
