Midweek matches are back which always creates chaos for Fantasy coaches with rotation, so it’s time to ensure you’ve got your bases covered.

New Options

Liverpool defenders Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson reminded Fantasy coaches that it’s not all about Trent Alexander-Arnold with scores of 15 and 12 respectively last gameweek.

Diogo Jota is another Liverpool listed midfielder who must be considered, with a recent five-game average of 7.2 points per game, fresh from a double which landed him 14 points.

Wolverhampton goalkeeper Jose Sa is putting together a good run of form, as his side climb the table, with 18 points in their past two games making him worth consideration at 5.0 pounds.

Previous week lessons

Don’t forget about Ilkay Gundogan at Manchester City, with the German coming up with a goal and an assist to score 13 points. He’s generously priced at 7.2 given what he produced late last season.

It’s not happening for Michail Antonio after four games in a row with scores of 2. However, his latest score was coming up against Manchester City, so do you stay patient? If you’ve come this far, probably yes with the Hammers at home to Brighton.

The same cannot be said for Cristiano Ronaldo who was benched last time out under new Manchester United boss Michael Carrick, barely making an impact in his cameo. At his price, your money can be better spent elsewhere.

Who to captain?

The old formula of Mohamed Salah is starting to wear thin. The Egyptian remains the undisputed Fantasy top scorer but his past four scores have been single digits, which may not be enough for some coaches. To be fair, his four-game average is 6 points, with one goal and three assists coming during that span. His ceiling is high and you know he’ll bang in a few soon, but the Reds have the Merseyside derby away to Everton.

Alexander-Arnold is an emerging alternative, assuming you’re not scared off by the Toffees, while Jota, van Dijk and Sadio Mane could be considered, with the fear of rotation.

Chelsea are away to Watford but there’s issues among the Blues with Romelu Lukaku only returning from injury with 10 minutes off the bench last gameweek, while Reece James has a knock and Ben Chilwell is out with an ACL injury.

Gundogan and Joao Cancelo’s Manchester City are away to inconsistent Aston Villa, while Jamie Vardy’s Leicester are away to Southampton whom he netted a hat-trick against in a 9-0 win in 2019.

Injuries

Midweek games means the threat of rotation is present and any knocks can attract demotion, so we’ll list a few, including Bukayo Saka, Danny Ings, N’Golo Kante, Youri Tielemans, Emmanuel Dennis and Aaron Cresswell.

Cresswell has a lower back concern creating doubt on his availability, while Dennis picked up an ankle concern last gameweek. Saka also was forced off on the weekend with an unspecified worry.

Pep Guardiola said Kevin De Bruyne has returned a negative COVID-19 test but still hasn’t returned to training, so his availability is unclear.
