France flexed their muscle ahead of the 2020 European Championship with a 3-0 win over Bulgaria although they lost Karim Benzema to injury in Paris on Tuesday night.

Antoine Griezmann opened the scoring on the half hour, before a late double from Olivier Giroud rounded out a comprehensive win for the world champions.

However, Les Bleus will be sweating on Real Madrid forward Benzema’s fitness after he was replaced on 41 minutes due to a thigh issue.

France boss Didier Deschamps: It is a knock, he took a good hit on the muscle above the knee.

“He felt that it was hardening, so we took no risks. The medical staff is by his side.”

France are in Group F, arguably the toughest Euro 2020 pool, alongside Portugal, Germany and Hungary.

Hungary were held to a goalless draw by the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday too.

An under-strength Spain line-up thrashed Lithuania 4-0, but La Roja’s future at the Euros still remains in limbo with the senior squad in isolation after captain Sergio Busquets tested positive to COVID-19.

Leeds defender Diego Llorente became the second player within the squad to return a positive COVID-19 test on Tuesday.

Spain boss Luis Enrique has called in a handful of standby players, while Tuesday’s side was entirely made of the Spanish Under-21 team.

Elsewhere, the Czech Republic defeated Albania 3-1, while Poland drew 2-2 with Iceland.
