UCL Wrap: Mbappe Dazzles as PSG Down Holders Bayern

Kylian Mbappe underlined his status as world football’s biggest emerging star with a double including the winner in Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-2 victory away to defending champions Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Paris Saint-Germain claimed a major advantage in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie with the victory at Bayern Munich in a re-match of last season’s decider.

Mbappe opened the scoring in the third minute before Marquinhos added a second in the 28th minute.

Bayern hit back before half-time from Eric Choupo-Mating, with Thomas Muller leveling the on the hour.

But 22-year-old Mbappe produced a moment of brilliance, gliding into the box before jinking and shooting low in at the near post for a 68th minute winner.

“We played an excellent match, we suffered a lot, but we reacted as a team,” Mbappe said.

“We tried to hurt them with our strengths and that worked this evening. But we are only at half-time in the encounter and between the two, we have a very important league match.

“They are a top side, there were no surprises there. We knew that we were coming up against a side that would make us suffer, but you need to get through that in order to win big matches. It’s an excellent victory and a great lead.”

Elsewhere in the Champions League, Chelsea also claimed a good lead with a 2-0 victory on the road to FC Porto, with the match played in Sevilla.

Mason Mount produced a wonderful goal after a superb first touch in the 32nd minute with Ben Chilwell rounding the keeper for the sealer in the 85th minute.
