Plucky West Ham United moved into the English Premier League’s top four with a 2-1 home win over Tottenham on Sunday, while both Mancunian clubs also won.

David Moyes’ West Ham triumphed 2-1 over Tottenham with goals early in both half from Michail Antonio and Jesse Lingard before Spurs rallied late, with Lucas Moura pulling one back while Gareth Bale hit the crossbar.

The result sees the Hammers move above Chelsea into fourth spot after the Blues drew 1-1 with Southampton on Saturday, while sixth-placed Liverpool continue to slide after their 2-0 home loss to Everton.

“The players have been finding ways to wrestle points off the opposition,” Moyes said. “They have done a brilliant job. You need a bit of luck along the way but we had all the right things.”

The Scot also suggested his side could play better in an ominous sign as they rally for a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League, while opposition manager Jose Mourinho conceded Spurs’ top four charge had ground to a halt.

Tottenham are now ninth having lost four of their past five in the league and trail the Hammers in fourth by nine points.

“Mathematically it’s possible so that means it’s realistic,” Mourinho said. “Very hard, yes, very hard, but mathematically possible.”

Meanwhile, Manchester City moved a step closer to the Premier League title with Raheem Sterling’s early goal clinching a 1-0 win at Arsenal.

Manchester United re-claimed second spot with a 3-1 victory over Newcastle, where they started slow after their midweek Europa League efforts.

Jack Grealish was out injured for Aston Villa as they slipped 2-1 at home to Leicester City who firmed up their grip on a top three spot.
