Michael Owen has backed Chelsea to pick up all three points against Newcastle United this weekend.

Chelsea will take on Newcastle away from home at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues are fifth in the league table at the moment with 15 points from eight matches.

Frank Lampard’s side will head into the match against Newcastle on the back of a 4-1 victory over Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge in London in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Newcastle currently find themselves 13th in the league table with 11 points from eight matches.

The Magpies suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Southampton away from home at St. Mary’s Stadium in their last league game.

Former Newcastle striker Owen believes that Chelsea will win the match, with star striker Timo Werner finding the back of the net.

While predicting Chelsea to win 2-1, Owen said: “Newcastle appear very inconsistent just now. I was covering their game against Southampton and it was clear that they couldn’t get into any rhythm. It will be interesting to see if Callum Wilson can shake-off the hamstring injury that he picked up in that game. Hes been excellent in front of goal for the Magpies, so far.

“I think in terms of the whole season, Newcastle should be fine, but their inconsistency could cost them dearly over the course of a season and as I can only see them finishing around mid-table.

“I originally said I fancied Chelsea to finish 3rd, however, I think that the points total will be lower this year, and that could bring the Blues right into the title mix.

“If they are to achieve that, then they will have to take maximum points from matches such as this. With Timo Werner in such good form, I think he could be amongst the goals in a Chelsea victory.”
