Edinson Cavani could be set to make his Manchester United debut when the Red Devils take on Chelsea in a Saturday blockbuster in the English Premier League.

Experienced Uruguay international Cavani joined United on transfer deadline day from Paris Saint Germain and has been since building up his match fitness, but the door may be ajar for him with Anthony Martial out suspended and Mason Greenwood battling injury.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: He might be ready for the squad as well for this weekend.

“Hes been training hard and been training well. I think hell be available for the weekend.

Solskjaer has a few headaches with Greenwood and defender Harry Maguire both racing the clock to be available for Saturday’s match which is important for both clubs who’ve wavered early in the campaign.

Were still hoping Mason and Harry can be available in the squad,” the Norwegian said.

“Of course, we have a training session today (Friday), so theyre going to have to go through that.

“Eric (Bailly) wont be available. Jesse (Lingard) wont be available so well manage without them for a few weeks I think.

United won 2-1 away to Paris Saint Germain in midweek after knocking off Newcastle 4-1 last weekend, piling on three late goals to suggest their form has turned the corner.

Chelsea have had defensive issues this campaign, conceding three goals in a 3-3 draw with Southampton last weekend, before a 0-0 home draw with Sevilla in the Champions League in midweek.

Blues boss Frank Lampard has confirmed Kepa Arrizabalaga will be demoted after his latest mistake, although he revealed it was due to a shoulder problem.

“Kepa’s injury was something that he picked up in the Southampton game,” he said

“It’s a shoulder injury and it was something that he carried along on the bench in midweek against Sevilla.

“He had a bit of pain in training so he’s had to take a step back this weekend but hopefully its not long-term.”
