Real Madrid went down to Manchester City

Lyon beat Juventus 1-0 in France in their Champions League game last night.

After a tentative opening period, Lyon were the first side to have a clear chance when Houssem Aouars cross found Karl Toko Ekambi, and his header from a difficult angle hit the bar. Ten minutes later the home side were ahead. Aouar again with the assist, and Lucas Tousart applying the finish with a left foot shot. Ekambi came close to adding to the lead before half-time, but his shot just cleared the bar.

The second half was marked by a lot of Juventus possession but they offered very little in attack until Palo Dybalas late effort found the net but he was flagged offside. Cristiano Ronaldo was restricted to long-range efforts only.

Manchester City beat Real Madrid 2 - 1 at the Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid. .

The first half was very cagey with City set up not to concede, and Real struggling for invention. The first opportunity fell to City and Gabriel Jesus, who worked room for himself for a shot, only for Thibaut Courtois to provide the save. Then Real came very close themselves when Ferland Mendys cross was met by Karim Benzemas downward header, only for Ederson in the City goal to produce a fine one-handed save.

It was City though you might have taken the lead on half-time when a corner was not cleared, Riyad Mahrez shot, and the ball deflected off the Real captain Sergio Ramos and was scrambled clear by his team mates.

15 minutes into the second half, the home side went ahead when hesitation in the City defence allowed Vinicius Junior to break free on the left and he squared it for Isco to steer the ball in to the net. However, City drew level when Kevin de Bruyne beat several men and crossed it for Gabriel Jesus to head home.

And then five minutes later substitute Raheem Sterling raced past Dani Carvajal in the Real penalty box who pulled him down to concede a penalty. Kevin de Bruyne ignored the crescendo of boos and sent Courtois the wrong way.

And, to make matters worse for Real they finished with ten men after Ramos was shown a straight red card for committing a professional foul on Jesus who was clean through.
