Premier League winners Alan Shearer and Vincent Kompany are among those who’ve lavished praise on Sergio Aguero after breaking two long-standing records in Manchester City’s 6-1 win at Aston Villa on Sunday.

Aguero netted a hat-trick in City’s rout of the Villans, taking his career Premier League> goals tally to 177 since joining the Sky Blues in 2011.

The Argentine has now scored the most goals of any overseas player in the Premier League, going past Thierry Henry with his second goal on Sunday.

The 31-year-old has the overall record in his sights too, with Shearer top of the list with 260 goals. Next on the list is Wayne Rooney (208) and Andy Cole> (187).

Aguero also overtook Shearer for the most hat-tricks in the Premier League> with 12.

“Congrats @aguerosergiokun. A special day for a special player,” Shearer posted on Twitter.

Aguero’s former City skipper Kompany said: “What a legend Sergio is… when he scored against QPR> and everyone said ‘Agueroooo’, you take that goal in isolation and he is always going to be a legend to me.

“He has been part of a very important core of players and no matter what happens, he will always be remembered as one guy who helped us get to the next level, such a level.”

Aguero’s Manchester City manager Josep Guardiola also lavished praise on the Argentine, comparing him to Arsenal legend Henry.

“Henry is one of the most incredible players that I have seen in this league, but I think he would be happy that Sergio is the guy who breaks his record,” Guardiola told Sky Sports.

“He was a legend and Sergio is the same.”
