Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made the admission ahead of the clash where United will chase their first away win since March.
The 26-year-old has already been withdrawn from France’s squad for the upcoming international break, having battled the ankle complaint over the past month after picking it up on national duty.
Pogba had returned in last week’s League Cup clash with Rochdale before starting against Arsenal in Monday’s 1-1 draw.
“It might be time for us to give Paul 10 or 14 days extra to be ready for Liverpool,” Solskjaer said.
United are currently in 10th spot, having only managed two wins this season from seven matches.
The Red Devils will be desperate for victory away to Newcastle, who are currently second last on the table..
Solskjaer clearly has the clash with leaders Liverpool following the international break on his mind too.
“We will need to improve and that is what we have to do,” Solskjaer said.
“We’re not in the ’90s now. It’s a different era, a different group that we’re building.
“We know there are going to be ups and downs. I’m ready to see these boys blossom.
“There’s not many clubs with our stature that play the young players that we do. They’ve got a chance to come through and we’re sure some of these will be part of a successful team.”
