Manchester United have kicked off their 2019-20 Europa League campaign with a narrow 1-0 win against FC Astana at home on Thursday evening.
The Red Devils failed to finish in the top four of the Premier League table last season and are playing in the Europa League this campaign.
United got the better of Astana 1-0 at Old Trafford on Thursday evening to kick off their Group L campaign on style.
Mason Greenwood scored the only goal of the match in the 73rd minute when he found the net with a clever finish in front of the Stretford End.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were the better team in the game, with Fred hitting the Astana crossbar from 25 yards, and England international striker Marcus Rashford had a number of chances to find the net himself.
Over the course of the 90 minutes at Old Trafford on Thursday evening, hosts United had 75% of the possession, took 20 shots of which seven were on target, and earned 13 corners.
Visitors FC Astana had 25% of the possession, took three shots and none of them were on target, and earned one corner.
Back in action
United will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on West Ham United away from home at the London Stadium in the Premier League.
The Red Devils will be back in action on October 3 when they take on AZ Alkmaar away from home in Europa League Group L.
