Anthony Stokes is a young Republic of Ireland football player who currently features for the English Premier League club Sunderland. He can play either as a winger or a striker.

Anthony Stokes began his club career at Arsenal and started playing for the reserves when he was just 15 years of age. His first team debut

Arsenal was against Sunderland in a League Cup tie against Sunderland on October 25,2005. But he could never play for the first team in the Premier League and was loaned to Scottish club Falkirk United for the 2006-2007 season.

In January 2007 Sunderland signed Anthony Stokes for 2 million pounds and Stokes made his debut for the club on January 13,2007 against Ipswich Town. He scored his first goal for Sunderland on February 10,2007 against Plymouth Argyle.

Anthony Stokes has since progressed at Sunderland and is now considered as one of the best players for the Black Cats.

Anthony Stokes made his international debut for Republic of Ireland in 2007 and has played 3 matches for his nation so far. His first match for his nation was against San Marino away on February 7,2007 when he came on as a substitute.
