Marcus Thorbjörn Ericsson is a former Formula One race car driver and a current IndyCar Series race car driver. He drives car Number 8 for the Chip Ganassi Racing team. His best finish was the number 6th spot in the 2021 and 2022 championships.

Marcus Thorbjörn Ericsson was born on September 2, 1990, in Kumla, Sweden. He got exposed to Karting at a young age and drew the attention of Richard Dutton, head of Fortec Motorsport. He would later become part of the Fortec Motorsport team for the Formula BMW UK title challenge. He ended up winning the 2007 Formula BMW UK championship title.

Later, he drove in the British Formula Three circuit from 2008 to 2009. In 2009, he raced in the Japanese Formula Three and won that season’s championship. After that, he raced in the GP2 Asia Series and later in the GP2 Series.
Awards
Ericsson was twice named the Swedish Junior Racer of the Year in 2007 and 2009.
Formula One
In November 2013, Caterham announced that they had signed Ericsson to drive for their F1 team alongside Kamui Kobayashi. He made his F1 debut at the 2014 Australian Grand Prix. In 2015, Sauber announced that they had signed the Swedish driver for the season.
In total, he had 97 starts in F1. His last entry was the 2018 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The best finish of his F1 career was the 17th position in the 2018 championship.
IndyCar Career
He started racing for the IndyCar Series and for the Ganassi team in 2019. His first race was the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg. He clocked his first win in 2021 at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix Race 1.
In 2021 and 2022, he finished in the number six spot in both years for the Championships. As of March 2023, Ericsson has been in 64 races and he has had 4 wins and 8 podium finishes.
