The Mexican racer won his first Formula One Grand Prix during the Salhir Grand Prix that happened in 2020 and made his debut during the 2011 season. During his first few seasons with Formula One, he was often regarded as the “Mexican Wunderkind” because of his excellent performance and young age. At present, he occupies the 3rd place position of the unfinished 2021 Formula One season.
Like many auto racing professionals, Perez started his racing career in karting. What makes him special is that he started doing so at the tender age of 6. By 2006, he earned the 6th position in the German series before taking part in the A1 Grand Prix for the A1 Team Mexico.
Perez moved up to Formula Three in 2007 and continued until 2008. By the 2008 to 2009 season, he joined the GP2 Asia Series driving for Campos Grand Prix and won his first race under the series.
It was in 2011 when the Sauber F1 Team welcomed Perez into their team, making him the fifth Mexican to join Formula One. During his first race as a Formula One driver, he finished 11th. By the end of his rookie season, he took the 16th place position after earning 14 points.
