Dario Franchitti may have been born in Scotland but is of Italian descent. Husband to Hollywood Actress Ashley Judd, Dario is a licensed helicopter pilot as well.
Franchitti has mainly been exploiting the CART championships for his experience. In his six seasons in CART racing, Dario has managed 4 top-seven finishes that include a runner-up trophy to Juan Pablo Montoya in 1999. His CART career has seen him win 10 races and 11 pole positions.
In 2004, Franchitti decided to move to the Indy Racing League and had two wins in the 2004 IndyCar season. In 2005, he upped his ante and got a fourth place finish to the 2005 season. After an ordinary 2006, he got a busy and spectacular 2007.
Dario won the 2007 Indy500 race. Not just that, he also won the 2007 IndyCar series and extended his open-wheel racing record to 18 wins and 17 pole positions. He took part in a select few NASCAR Nationwide series races and managed a best finish of 25th place in 4 starts. He also took part in one race in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
Dario is not accustomed to Stock car racing and in his first season at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, it is just a question of ‘wait & watch’ to see what the Italian treats his fans to.
