Heikki commited till 2009

Heikki Kovalainen will be a part of the McLaren Mercedes Formula One team for the next season as well. The British team announced that Heikki will continue to partner Lewis Hamilton in their bid for the title in 2009 as well.

Heikki replaced Fernando Alonso at McLaren in 2008 after the two-time world champion had major differences within the team. Heikki had made his debut in 2006 and since joining McLaren, has scored 28 points which includes a third place at March’s Malaysian Grand Prix. Sixth in the drivers’ standings, Heikki trails his teammate, and championship leader, by 30 points.
