Ferrari have announced their highly-anticipated new car for the 2013 Formula One season will be named F138.

The Italian racing heavyweights struggled for pace during the 2012 season, where Fernando Alonso finished runner-up to Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel by just three points.

Ferrari admitted last season’s car was slow in straight lines, was sluggish through corners and had poor traction, although the team tinkered with the vehicle throughout the campaign, with a new exhaust system proving positive.

However, the 2013 car will be something new, with the name originating from the year number and the amount of cyclinders in the engine (V8).

The car, which will be unveiled on Friday, will be Ferrari’s 59th used in the Formula One series.
