Lewis Hamilton has moved 62 points clear at the top of the 2019 Formula One Drivers’ Championship after winning Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

Hamilton finished first ahead of Red Bull’s Max Versteppen and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel.

The Mercedes driver overtook Versteppen dramatically with three laps to go after an expert pit strategy from his team.

The triumph was Hamilton’s seventh in Hungary and has enabled him to open up a major buffer from teammate Valtteri Bottas in the overall race.

Bottas, who started from the front row, finished down in eighth.

Hamilton said: “I feel really grateful for the day and for the team for continuing to believe in me and push to the limits.

“We’ve been together seven years and it never gets old and it always feels brand new like a new win for us and if it was not for these guys and the guys back at the factory, it wouldn’t be possible.”

The Formula One season now takes a four-week European summer break before resuming in Belgium on September 1.
