Petter and Henning Solberg were the talk of the town after the brothers set the same fastest time through the pre-event shakedown stage in Finland. All fastest drivers were extremely close to each other with just one second separating the top-six.
Held at the 3.76 km Laajavuori stage, 6 kms from the service park in Jyvaskyla, the weather conditions were bright and dry throughout the four hour session.
“I’m not sure it will mean too much on the actual rally, but it’s a good result for our family!” said Petter. “My car felt good to drive; the changes we have made over the summer break have definitely given some improvement in the feeling. But it’s hard to read too much into the times because the road only represented one small part of the actual rally route. Also, as it’s a shakedown I’ve driven many times before, it’s a piece of road I know very well.”
Sebastien Loeb and Gianluigi Galli were just six-tenths of a second slower than the Solberg brothers and were tied for the third fastest times whereas Andreas Mikkelsen and Tony Gardemeister were tied in fifth. Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala were eighth and eleventh respectively. After an engine failure early in the session Per-Gunnar Andersson returned to complete two further passes in his SX4 WRC.
