Gina Carano is a former American mixed martial artist with numerous accomplishments to her name. She used to fight in the Featherweight division and her main fighting style was Muay Thai. Nicknamed “Conviction” and “Crush”, she is also a fitness model, television personality, and movie actress.
Gina Joy Carano was born in Dallas, Texas on April 16, 1982. While she was studying at Trinity Christian High School in Nevada, she took up softball and volleyball and even helped the basketball team get the state title. She played softball and basketball while she attended the University of Nevada.
Before her MMA career, Carano is an accomplished kick boxer with a record of 12-1-1. She is a member of Xtreme Couture and an expert in Muay Thai and boxing. Because of her exceptional record in kickboxing, she was offered an MMA fight.
It started in June 2006 when she won over Leiticia Pestovavia in the first round in 38 seconds via KO. She had her first fight under Strikeforce on December 2006 and defeated Elaina Maxwell in a unanimous decision. She had a victory run when she fought for EliteXC in 2007 as she won her fight over Julie Kedzie, Tonya Evinger, Kaitlin Young, and Kelly Kobold.
She signed a contract with Strikeforce in 2009. It paved the way to challenge Christiane “Cyborg” Santos for the first Women’s Featherweight Championship title. She got her first failure when the fight was halted after 5 minutes announcing Santos as a winner.
Carano is also an actress and a model. She’s been a part of NBC’s American Gladiators in 2008 where she played the gladiator role. The following year, she’s been included in Maxim’s Hot 100 list. For MMA career, Carano has recorded 8 fights. She won 7 of the match, 3 via KO, 1 by submission, and the other 3 by decision. Her only defeat was with Christiane Santos.
