Robbie “Ruthless” Lawler is an American mixed martial artist fighting under the Welterweight division under the American Top Team Association. His rose to fame started after winning the Middleweight Championship of the now defunct Elite XC and was the former two-time ICON Sport Middleweight Champion.
He was born as Robert Glen Lawler on March 20, 1982 in San Diego California. He began his training for MMA at 16 under the mentorship of legendary fighter Pat Miletich.
He has two successful amateur fights prior to entering the MMA in 2001. He won against Ernie Ward and Jerry Hudsperth via KO and TKO at the EC Trials. Three months after, he won his first debut MMA match at the EC 39 – Extreme Challenge 39 winning against John Reed via TKO.
Lawler was undefeated for a year, from April 2001 to November 2002. His first shot at the UFC was a match against Aaron Riley. He won via unanimous decision. ‘Ruthless’ won several UFC matches afterwards defeating Steve Berger and Tiki Ghisn at the UFC 37.5 and the UFC 40 respectively. His first taste of defeat was at the UFC 42 after defeating Pete Spratt via submission due to an injury. He also lost his fight against Nick Diaz, an Evan Tanner during his stint at the UFC.
He later on played at the Strikeforce experience several wins and defeats in between his career. After losing to Lorenz Larkin at the Strikeforce – Rockhold vs. Kennedy, he went back to the UFC and won his fight against Josh Koscheck at the UFC 157.
His latest fight was against Rory MacDonald where Lawler won via TKO at the UFC 189. He is scheduled to fight against Carlos Condit at the UFC 195 this coming January 2016.
Lawler’s MMA career record include 36 fights with 26 wins, 10 losses with 1 no contest.
