Kelvin Gastelum is an American mixed martial artist born on October 24, 1991. He is currently signed under the Ultimate Fighting Championship and is competing in the middleweight division. The professional fighter was once the winner the Ultimate Fighter under Team Jones.
Gastelum was a wrestler during his high school years. He attended Cibola High School and was a state champion wrestler at that time. He then went to North Idaho College for only a year before beginning his professional career in mixed martial arts. During his first few years as a professional fighter, he was also working as a bail bondsman. He won his first fight as a professional via submission. By 2013, he was one of the few selected to be a member of the Ultimate Fighter: Team Jones versus Team Sonnen.
The 24-year old was born in sunny San Jose, California. He is known as, “Mini Cain” in the mixed martial arts world. He stands 5 feet and 9 inches and comes with a 71-inch reach. His main styles in fighting include wrestling, boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Since 2010, he accumulated a mixed martial arts record of 13 fights with 11 wins and 2 losses. These wins include 4 by knockout, 4 by submission and 3 by decision.
Gastelum also had earned several accomplishments in his mixed martial arts career. In addition to being the Ultimate Fighter 17 Winner, he also earned a one-time Fight of the Night and a one-time Performance of the Night under the UFC. The World MMA Awards also awarded him Breakthrough of the Year in 2014 while MMA Nuts.com made him the 2014 Prospect of the Year.
