Michael Chandler or Michael Chandler Jr. is an American mixed martial artist born on April 24, 1986. He is currently signed under Bellator MMA and competes in the lightweight division. He has been a former champion in his division under Bellator as well as the winner of the Bellator Season 4: Lightweight Tournament. In 2001, he became the Breakthrough Fighter of the Year.
Chandler was born in charming High Ridge in Missouri. In high school, Chandler was always part of the honor roll and joined both football and wrestling teams. For his college degree, he attended University of Missouri and was also part of the wrestling team. He became a four-time NCAA qualifier. After college, he began training in mixed martial arts with Xtreme Couture and competed as an amateur. By 2009, he made his professional mixed martial arts debut winning a technical knockout victory at the very first round over Kyle Swadley. After the fight, he signed with Strikeforce before working under Bellator.
Chandler stands 5 feet and 8 inches and comes with 69-inch reach. Before fighting under the lightweight division, he used to compete in the welterweight division. He trains with Alliance MMA and fights out of San Diego, California. At present, he comes with a mixed martial arts record of 17 fights with 14 wins and 3 losses. His wins include 6 by knockout, 6 by submission and 2 by decision.
His latest fights happened in 2015. He had a fight in June with Derek Campos where he won via submission using the rear-naked choke during the first round. He also won his second fight that year with David Rickels via technical knockout during the second round.
