Rory “Red King” MacDonald hailed from Canada and currently fights at the welterweight division of the US. He was a former King of the Cage Lightweight Champion prior to his stint at the UFC. He currently trains under the Tristar Gym Association and takes ad the number 1 contender in the UFC welterweight division.
Red King was born on July 22, 1989 and started training with David Lea at 14 at the Toshido Fighting Arts Academy at Kelowna. He later on moved and joined the Tristar Gym which happens to formerly train UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Piere.
His first professional fight was against Terry Thiara at the Extreme Fighting Challenge event where he won at the young age of 16. His King of the Cage debut was also a success against Ken Tran. He signed up exclusively with the King of the Cage and won two consecutive fights after that paving the way for an opportunity to fight for the KOTC Canadian Lightweight Title. He won the fight against Clay French via a KO on the econd round earning him the title.
With a professional fighting record of 9-0, he later on moved to the UFC and fought against Mike Guymon on his debut. He won the fight via an armbar submission on the first round. Unfortunately, on his second time at the UFC, he was defeated by Carlos Condit at the UFC 115 via a TKO in 2010.
He won 5 consecutive fights after that defeating Nate Diaz, Mike Pyle, Che Mills, B.J. Penn and Jake Ellenberger before he experienced another defeat. He lost via a split decision against Robbie Lawler at the UFC 167 in 2013.
MacDonald has currently a record of 21 fights with 18 wins and 3 losses, 2 of which is via KO and one via decision.
