Ville Leino is a Finnish winger on the Philadelphia Flyers.
Leino was undrafted, but played 6 seasons in the Finnish SM-liiga before being signed by Detroit in 2008. He spent three years with Ilves, before spending two years in the HPK organization. His best season in the SM-liiga came in 2007-08, when he scored 28 goals and 77 points, earning him the attention of the Red Wings. He also won the Finnish equivalent of league MVP that season. He spent most of 2008-09 in the AHL, before being called up to Detroit for 13 games, scoring 5 goals and 9 points. In 2009-10, he scored just 7 points in 42 games, due mostly to the limited time he saw per game in a stacked Red Wings’ lineup. In Philadelphia, helping to fill in for injured stars Jeff Carter and Simon Gagne, Leino turned in a heroic effort in the playoffs, scoring 7 goals and 21 points to help the Flyers reach the Stanley Cup Finals. Leino was retained by the Flyers for the 2010-11 season.
