Jiri Hudler is a center from the Czech Republic who plays for the Detroit Red Wings
Hudler was drafted by the Red Wings in 2002 with their first pick (58th of the draft). Hudler played in the Czech leagues from 1999-2003, playing mostly for Vsetin. He first played for the Red Wings in 2003-04, but spent most of that season and the following season during the lockout playing for the Wings’ AHL team, Grand Rapids Griffins. Hudler put up exceptional numbers during his stint in the AHL, setting team records for points and assists, and was called up for regular ice time during the 2006-07 season. Fellow Czech star Robert Lang mentored Hudler, and in the 2007-08 season, he has broken out and become a major contributor for the Wings, accumulating 42 points in 81 games. He also has 13 playoff points.
