Brian Gionta is an American winger on the Montreal Canadiens.
Gionta was drafted by the Devils in 1998, and at 5’7, 175 lbs, he is the smallest player in the NHL. Gionta won a National Championship with Boston College in 2001. Gionta joined the Devils in 2001, and helped the team win a Stanley Cup in 2003. His best season was in 2005-06, when he scored 48 goals and 89 points. His 48 goals are a team record for goals in a single season. The following season, Gionta’s production dropped sharply, as he finished with only 45 points. The past two seasons have seen Gionta begin to regain his form, as he scored 22 goals and 53 points in ‘07-08 and recorded 40 assists and 60 points in ‘08-09. During the 2009 offseason, after former linemate Scott Gomez signed with the Canadiens, Gionta was enticed to join the Habs, and signed a five year deal worth $25 million.
