Ryan Smyth is a Canadian left winger on the Los Angeles Kings.
Smyth grew up cheering for the Edmonton Oilers, and was drafted by the club in 1994, 6th overall. For the next 12 seasons, Smyth was the hometown’s golden boy, leading the team in scoring for a number of years, and having the best seasons of his career in 2000-01, when he scored 31 goals and 70 points. Unfortunately, near the end of the 2006-07 season, negotiations with the Oilers fell through, and Smyth was traded to the New York Islanders at the trade deadline. After helping the Isles reach an unexpected playoff berth, Smyth signed with Colorado in the 2007 offseason. Smyth played two years in Colorado, scoring 26 goals and 59 points, along with 62 penalty minutes in 2008-09. He was traded to Los Angeles in the 2009 offseason, where he was placed on the first line with Anze Kopitar. The move worked out well, as he recorded points in each of his first six games, helping Kopitar become the league’s early season league leader in points.
