Niclas Havelid is a Swedish defenseman on Linkopings HC.
Havelid was drafted by Anaheim in 1999, after playing in the Elitserien for a number of seasons. He played with AIK and the Malmo Redhawks before being drafted. He played with Anaheim for 5 seasons, making it to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2003. He played with Sodertalje SK of the Elitserien during the NHL lockout in 2004-05. He returned to the NHL with the Atlanta Thrashers, and was one of their top defensemen over the three seasons he spent there, scoring 15 points in the 63 games he played with the team in 2008-09. At the trade deadline, he was traded to New Jersey as they geared up for their playoff run. He played 15 games with the Devils at the end of the season, and 7 more in the playoffs. After the Devils’ early exit in the first round, Havelid opted to return to Sweden to play for Linkopings HC.
Havelid has played for Team Sweden at a number of international competitions, winning silver at the 1993 World Juniors and 2004 World Championships, as well as gold medals at the 1998 World Championships and 2006 Winter Olympics.
