Shane Doan is a Canadian winger on the Phoenix Coyotes.
Doan was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets, 7th overall, in 1995, right before the franchise was moved to Phoenix. He is the last player to have played on the Jets and Coyotes. Doan has developed into one of the premier power forwards in the NHL today, and has been the center piece of the Coyotes organization since his breakout season in ’99-00. His best career season was in 2007-08, when he finished with 50 assists and 78 points.
Doan has played for Team Canada 6 times, winning 3 gold medals at the 2003 and 2007 World Championships and the 2004 World Cup. He won silver at the 2005 World Championships, and has captained the squad for the past two seasons.
Doan has been accused of making negative remarks about French Canadians, but was cleared in an NHL investigation. These allegations have caused controversy over his being named captain of Team Canada in 2007 and 2008.
