Chris Pronger is a Canadian defnseman on the Philadelphia Flyers.
Pronger was drafted by the Hartford Whalers 2nd overall in 1993, after playing in the OHL for two seasons. Pronger was impressive right from the start, but was traded to St. Louis for star forward Brendan Shanahan in 1995. He set a career high with 62 points and a +52 rating in ’99-00, and won the Norris and Hart Trophies as the NHL’s best defenseman and MVP. He was also captain of the team for a number of years. He was traded to Edmonton in 2005, and he helped the Oilers reach the Cup Finals in 2006. After a disappointing loss to Carolina, Pronger asked for a trade from Edmonton, and was dealt to Anaheim shortly after. The next season, he helped lead the Ducks to the Cup Finals, where this time he was successful in winning his first Stanley Cup. He was named captain of the team in 2007, after Scott Niedermayer briefly retired. Pronger has been an NHL All-Star 5 times in his career. After scoring 48 points in 2008-09, Pronger was part of a blockbuster deal that sent him to the Flyers in exchange for Luca Sbisa and Joffrey Lupul.
