Niklas Backstrom is a Finnish goalie on the Minnesota Wild.
Backstrom played a number of seasons in the Finnish SM-liiga with HIFK, SaiPa and Karpat. He won 2 league titles with Karpat, after which he signed with Minnesota. He got an opportunity to start in Minnesota when starting goalie Manny Fernandez went down with an injury, and he played so well that he earned the starting job for good. Over 99 NHL games, he has 56 wins and a 2.17 GAA.
Backstrom won a silver medal with Finland at the 2006 Winter Olympics.
