Dan Hamhuis is a Canadian defenseman on the Vancouver Canucks.
Hamhuis was drafted by Nashville in 2001, with their first pick. Hamhuis is a hard hitting, yet offensively productive defenseman, and is contracted to play with Nashville through 2010. 2005-06 was his best statistical season, with 38 points and 70 penalty minutes in 82 games. He played four more years with the Predators, scoring at least 20 points in every season, and recording at least 66 penalty minutes in every year except 2009-10. At the end of the ‘09-10 season, he was an unrestricted free agent, and the Predators didn’t have the money to keep him, so he became one of the top free agent prizes of the summer. Soon after free agency opened in July of 2010, he signed with the Canucks.
He played for Canada at the 2001 and 2002 World Junior Championships, as well as the 2006, 2007 and 2008 World Championships. He won a gold medal in 2007, a silver in 2002 and a bronze in 2001.
