Troy Matteson is an American professional golfer who won twice on the Nationwide Tour as well as twice on the PGA Tour. He also held the record for winning the most money in one season on the Nationwide Tour when he won $495,009 in the 2005 season.

He was born on November 8, 1979 in Rockledge, Florida and began playing golf at age 7. He attended Anderson High School where he led the team achieve 3 state championships – in 1995, 1997, and 1998. He then finished on the top 10% of his graduating class in high school.

He qualified for the US Amateur beginning in 1998. By 2001, he was named GCAA All-American and was an All-ACC pick both for the first time in his career.

He attended Georgia Tech to achieve a degree in Civil Engineering. When the NCAA individual title event was changed to team format, he was the first Tech player to win that title. He soon became the first Tech player to win 4 individual titles for a single season.

Matteson turned pro in 2003 and became a member of the Nationwide Tour in 2004. He finished 2nd during The Rex Hospital Open, Rheem Classic and Price in 2005. That same year, he also ranked 7th for Birdie Average, won the Virginia Beach Open and Mark Christopher Charity Classic, and earned his 2006 PGA tour card by ranking #1 on the Nationwide Tour Money List of 2005.

Continuing his winning streak, Matteson won the Frys.com Open in Las Vegas in 2006. He finished T2 at the FUNAI Classic, T6 at the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro, T8 at the Southern Farm Bureau Classic, and T9 at the Chrysler Championship in Tampa (Florida) – all in 2006. He then finished T3 at the John Deere Classic & AT&T Classic, T9 at the Deutsche Bank Championship, and T11 at the prestigious Mercedes Benz Championship in 2007. He also garnered 5 top 10s in 2008 and 1 top 10 in 2009.

The records show that, surely, starting golf at 7 years old has been quite advantageous for Matteson.
