James R. Turnesa was an American professional golfer who was born on December 9, 1912 in New Work City, New York. He has six other brothers who are also golfers, namely Phil, Frank, Joe, Mike, Doug, and Willie. Among the 7 siblings, James was the only one who won a major golf title. He won the PGA Championship in 1952, defeating fellow American, Chick Harbert. He was able to play on the 1953 Ryder Cup Team.

His first recorded win was at the Rhode Island Open. The next one was the PGA Championship which is his only major title in his entire career. And then he competed at the 1959 Metropolitan Open and won the title. And by 1960, he competed and won with Gloria Armstrong the Haig and Haig Scotch Foursome, which is not called the JCPenny Classic.
