Ortiz turned pro in 2013 and he debuted in the PGA in 2014. He played on the Tour in 2017 and 2018 and by the end of the 2018 season, he had regained his PGA Tour card. He won his first PGA Tour event in 2020, this was the Vivint Houston Open. He is the third Mexican to have won on the PGA Tour. The others are Cesar Sanudo and Victor Regalado.

In 2022, he started playing on the LIV Tour and got suspended from the PGA Tour as a consequence.
