He later attended Tennessee Tech. While there, he was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year twice. He was also named an All-American in 2006.


He began his professional career playing on the Tarheel Tour. He later qualified to play for the Nationwide Tour. He earned his PGA Tour Card in 2011. In the same year, he got his first PGA Tour win at the Greenbrier Classic. He made it to the playoff beating Bob Estes and Bill Haas.

The following year, he won the True South Classic. He finished 2 strokes ahead of Jason Bohn. In January 2014, he won the Farmers Insurance Open, winning by one stroke.

As of 2022, he continues to play on the PGA Tour. He was the runner-up of the BMW Championship, finishing behind Patrick Cantlay by one stroke. He was also in the Top 4 of both the John Deere Classic and the Charles Schwab Challenge.
