Tiger Woods has claimed his 75th career US PGA title after triumphing at Torrey Pines for the seventh time.

Woods was victorious on Monday in the event which had been delayed due to fog, winning by four shots from Brandt Snedeker and Josh Teater.

The former world number one had led by six shots at the start of play, although he bogeyed twice on the back nine as well as double bogey on the 15th but held on in the end.

“It got a little ugly towards the end and I started to lose my patience a little with the slow play and I lost my focus there a little bit but I buckled down and was able to get the win,” Woods said.

The triumph at Torrey Pines is a significant one for Woods, who in five of the six previous years where he has won the event, he has gone on to win a major.

“I’m excited about this year,” said Woods. “I was excited about what I did last year, winning three times.

“And I felt really good about what we’re working on. Does it feel good? Yes. Does it give me confidence? Absolutely. This was a nice way to start the year.”
