Former number one golfer Tiger Woods admits changes to the European Tour’s qualification rules may tempt him to join the circuit.

The 36-year-old 14-time Major winner has had 38 European Tour wins in his time, compared to 74 on the US PGA Tour.

The European Tour is considering changes to its qualification rules following pressure regarding the make-up of the 13 events required to be played to be eligible.

Under the current rules, the Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup and Seve Trophy don’t count towards the qualification criteria, however that appears set for change.

“I don’t know what my numbers are as I know I played 19 in the States this year and whether it crosses over or not but I will again look at it,” Woods said.

“I did play Abu Dhabi but then 13 are certainly a lot more than 11 (as it was when Woods last considered the European Tour in 2000) especially playing full time in the States.”

World number one Rory McIlroy added: “For guys playing a global schedule, the Ryder Cup should count toward one of those tournaments. Golf is the easy part in the Ryder Cup week. There’s so much going on.”
