Europe’s golf superstars have dedicated the weekend’s remarkable come-from-behind Ryder Cup triumph over the USA to the late Seve Ballesteros.

The Spanish golf great passed away last year and he was the toast of the European team after they completed the greatest ever comeback in Ryder Cup history after trailing 10-6 at one stage.

A tearful Europe captain Jose Maria Olazabal said: “I had a few thoughts for my friend Seve, this one’s for him.”

Sergio Garcia added: “I have no doubt in my mind that he was with me today all day.

“Because there’s no chance I would have won my match if he wasn’t there.”

Germany’s Martin Kaymer sealed the triumph for the Europeans when he beat Steve Stricker in his pairing.

“This is indescribable. I was so nervous in the last two or three holes,” he said.

“Olazabal came up to me on the 16th and told me we needed my point to win the Ryder Cup. I loved that feeling. Loved it.”
