Donald Wins Scottish Open

Luke Donald prepped up for the upcoming British Open by winning the Scottish Open with a perfect 9-under-63. Spectators braved the rain to see Donald win by four strokes, his first win since climbing up to the top spot in the rankings in May.luke donald

For a moment, it looked like the 33 year old was not even close to the title since he was running behind the trio of leaders in the final round. However, after he rolled in nine spectacular birdies without any bogeys, Donald went straight for the title with 19 under, just ahead of Swede golfer Fredrik Andersson Hed.

“I felt good out there, very comfortable, very in control. That is a good sign for next week. There is always a little added pressure when you are No.1 but hopefully I have proved I can handle that. It was a strong fields this week and the best way to prepare.”

This is Donald’s eight professional titles and his third title for the year, just another victory that cements his rank as the first in the world, which he attained nearly two months ago when he defeated Lee Westwood in the playoff for the PGA Championship in Europe.

This win is the perfect push that Donald needs as he goes for the British Open title. The tournament is set to open at Royal St. George on Thursday. If he does win the title, this will be Donald’s first major title in his career.

“I only see this as a positive,” he said. “I will be high on confidence. I am hitting the ball nicely and to do it on a links course is even better. I am looking forward to bringing this game to next week.”
