Jonathan Byrd Wins Las Vegas Tournament

In a shocking turn of events, Jonathan Byrd took the lead in a three-man playoff that was held last Sunday and won the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital Open title.Jonathan Byrd>

A few minutes earlier during the match, Byrd stood together with Cameron Percy and Martin Laird discussing whether or not the light was sufficient enough to continue the tournament. The three men reached a decision and agreed to take a shot at one more hole, which was the 204-yard 17th at the TPC Summerlin.

As a result, the whole playoff ended with just one swing.

The light was not really that sufficient but it was good enough for Byrd to hit the ball. Unfortunately, it was too dark for Byrd to see where his ball landed. The ball had landed approximately 10 feet from the flag and rolled right into the cup. Even the cheers of the fans that came out was not so convincing.

Still unsure, Byrd had to ask his caddie if the ball went in.

The result was almost as stunning as the fact that Byrd was still in the playoff. During the third playoff hole, Byrd’s shot tumbled over the green, and was close to going into the water. However, the ball landed in a clump of grass which he then shot up to 7 feet, just enough to make it stay alive and in the game.

The victory came at the right time since Byrd was on the No. 117 of the money list, and with this current victory, he has just been assured a 2-year exemption.
