The Cincinnati Royals were a bad luck team, and made some poor decisions with personnel too. But the fact they played in the wrong division probably cost them a trip to the NBA Finals. The West Division - Chicago Zephyrs became the Baltimore Bullets in 1963. For whatever reason, they remained in the NBA's West Division until late 1966. Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Cincinnati made up the East Division during that stretch. If the Royals had been moved to the West Division, 1963-66, they likely win the West Division title, possibly with more wins, and make the NBA Finals at least once. The point ? If Cincinnati made the NBA Finals, they might not have moved to Kansas City. Today they are known as the Sacramento Kings and still have never made the NBA Finals. Making the NBA Finals, between 1963-1966, might have changed a lot for the Cincinnati version of the team.
