In American football, an “extra point” takes place directly after a touchdown wherein the scoring team is given a chance to attempt to score an extra point depending on the league’s rules.
Also called points after touchdown, conversion, or try, an “extra point” can be done by bringing the ball into the end zone similar to that of a touchdown, yielding two points, or by kicking the ball through the uprights similar to a field goal, which yields a point.
