Professional Career

He joined the National Football League in 2020 and was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the first round of the draft and was the 5th overall pick of the draft. He was projected to be chosen earlier but the injury he suffered in his first year caused him to be chosen further down.

He signed his rookie contract with the team in May 2020 and he made his NFL debut in Week 6 in a match against the New York Jets. In the 2022 season, he led the leading in passer rating. In the same year, he was also named the Polynesian Pro Football Player of the Year. In March 2023, the team picked up their fifth-year option on Tagovailoa’s contract.
