Derwin James is a professional American football player in the National Football League. He has played for the Los Angeles Chargers since they drafted him into the league in 2017. James has been named to both the Pro Bowl and the First-team All-Pro in 2018 and 2021. When he was a rookie, he was also named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team.

He initially attended Auburndale High School before he transferred to the Haines City High School in his hometown. By his senior year, he was ranked by Rivals.com as a five-star recruit. James committed to play for Florida State University. He stayed with them from 2015 to 2017.

While in college, he was named to the First-team All-ACC in 2016 and 2017. He was also named to the First-team All American in 2017. At the end of 2017, he declared for the NFL and decided to forgo the rest of his college eligibility.
Professional Career
He joined the NFL during the 2018 NFL Draft. The Los Angeles Chargers drafted him into the league and he was the 17th overall pick of the Draft. The team signed him in June 2018.
In his rookie season, he was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team and he was also named to both the Pro Bowl and the First-team All-Pro. The following year, he was listed as No.31 in the NFL Top 100 players of 2019.
He was placed on the injured list in 2019 and he was reactivated in the same year. He was also placed on injured reserve for a time in 2020. In 2021, the team exercised their fifth-year option in his contract.
