Career

On April 27, 2008, Amendola signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent. He was never able to play in a regular season with the Cowboys, having spent the whole 2008 season on the practice squad.

Amendola was signed to the practice squad of the Philadelphia Eagles when his contract with the Cowboys expired. Again, he was never able to play in a regular season with the team.

He had his first action in an NFL regular season with the St. Louis Rams in the 2009 season. In his first game, Amendola caught 43 passes for 326 yards and 1 touchdown.

His next team is the New England Patriots. Amendola signed a 5-year contract worth $28.5 million with a $10 million guaranteed money. In Week 1 of the 2013 season, Amendola injured his groin during a game versus the Buffalo Bills.

After the halftime, he returned and finished the game with 10 catches for 104 yards. Overall, he finished the 2013 season with 54 catches for 633 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Amendola participated in the Super Bowl XLIX during the 2014 season. During this game, he made 5 catches for 48 yards along with a touchdown that helped his team win over the Seattle Seahawks.

In the 2015 season, Amendola performed excellently except when he was fined $23,152 on January 22, 2016, in the AFC Divisional playoff game. The fine was for an illegal block on Jamell Fleming, the punt returner of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Amendola finished the 2016 season with 23 receptions for 243 yards and 4 touchdowns. During this season, he recorded his career’s best catch rate of 79.3%. He joined Super Bowl once again this year, finishing with 152 receiving yards.

On March 15, 2018, the Miami Dolphins signed Amendola into a 2-year contract. He finished his season with them with 59 receptions for 575 receiving yards and a single receiving touchdown.

Amendola signed with the Detroit Lions on March 11, 2019. He stayed with them for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. On September 7, 2021, he signed with the Houston Texans on a 1-year contract.
