In 2006 with the Cowboys, Rector served as the team’s primary punt returner and as their fourth or fifth receiver. After being waved on October 23, 2006, Dallas re-signed him to their practice squad. They cut him on August 27, 2007. The Arizona Cardinals inked him to their practice unit on October 10, 2007, and he was put on the active roster on December 1. On 30 August 2008, he was waived from the team.

In college over the course of 41 games, he had 289 receptions for 4,497 yards and 38 touchdowns. He averaged 15.5 YPC. He also rushed the ball 42 times for 232 yards and four touchdowns.

Primarily a special teams player, he shows good speed and decent moves. Rector has sure hands and is a fine competitor. His small frame makes him susceptible to being controlled by larger, stronger defenders.
