Wide receiver Samuel George Hurd, III is a professional footballer who plays presently for the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL. He played his NCAA football at Northern Illinois University and was undrafted in 2006. He was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as a free-agent and is second on the team’s depth chart just behind Terrell Owens.
At NIU he made 143 receptions, which tied him for fifth in school history, and he accumulated 2,323 yards, which was second in the NIU annuals. His 21 scores on passes ranked him third for NIU football.
For the Cowboys, Hurd has played on special teams and as the second-string receiver behind Owens. In two seasons with Dallas he has appeared in 31 games, making 24 receptions for 389 yards and an average gain of 16.3 yards. He has scored one touchdown.
Hurd is six-foot-two and 205 pounds. As a receiver, his size is average and his bulk a little undersized. With the departure of Terry Glenn, Hurd could become the starting number three receiver for the Cowboys. He has the work ethic and smarts to be a starter at WR but needs to overcome his size. He possesses good speed and is an accurate route runner. Hurd is a tough player devoted to winning.
