The Philadelphia Eagles will travel to Giants stadium to meet the New York club at 1 PM on Sunday, January 11. The Eagles are hot off their 24- 16 Wild-Card victory over the Minnesota Vikings. The New York Giants, who won the NFC East this year, are coming off a bye week.
The Eagles have a solid defense that during the regular-season allowed an average of just 18 PPG while the team scored 26 PPG. Against the Vikings last week, Philadelphia was close on the heels of both numbers, coming in, as they did in the 16-game season, at plus-eight in PF/PA..
The New York football Giants, like the Eagles, held opponents to 18 PPG this year and scored an average of 27 PPG, making them plus-nine, which was one point better than Philadelphia. The Giants held teams to under 100 yards per game rushing. Their secondary is not as strong, having allowed almost 200 yards per contest.
For the Eagles, the question is will running back Brian Westbrook be ready to go? Westbrook was instrumental in the club’s success last week and in the regular-season. QB Donovan McNabb is on a mission to prove his worth and his favorite target, rookie DeSean Jackson, is a talented pass catcher.
When the Giants run, they are tough to stop. Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward are two of the best in the NFL as each man had 1,000-plus yard seasons this year. Jacobs has been nursing an injury but should be ready to run after a week of rest. Eli Manning put in a solid season but needs to keep away from the sack.
Keys to the Game
*Play tough defense, especially versus the run and in pressuring Manning. *Exploit the talents of Westbrook as much as you can. *McNabb must be close to flawless, hopefully he’ll play loose.
*Eli Manning must continue to play mistake-free. *Run, run, run and pass and run, run, run more. *Wear down Westbrook.
My Pick:the Eagles by three.
